Please Note: The iPP 320 is a networked payment device currently available for Elavon customers only. This reader supports swipe, chip, and contactless (e.g. Apple Pay, Android Pay) payment methods.
This guide covers the installation of the device and tips to prevent some common errors you might experience with the device depending on the specific application within your business.
Before you begin
This device is used in Ethernet (network) mode. Although the device itself supports USB, Serial and Bluetooth, the model shipped and implemented in talech will only communicate with the talech register via Ethernet.
Each iPad must use it's own reader if it is intended to take card payments. The reader cannot be used with multiple iPads.
Along with our minimum network speed requirements, talech recommends installing your point-of-sale equipment on its own network, separate from the rest of your businesses. This is easily and economically accomplished by using a single router, connected in series to your ISP-provided gateway. This is also recommended as most ISP-provided gateway/routers have been known to have local network connectivity issues while aftermarket routers do not usually suffer from this problem. Note: If your iPP is operated in EMV-Enabled mode, you should also have PIN debit enabled on your Merchant Services account. The iPP will default to PIN debit for supported cards with the Interlink or Maestro logo on the card when the reader is operated in EMV-Enabled mode. There are no configurable options that change the workflow programmed in the reader by your processor at this time.
Unbox and verify the required components are present
Unbox your equipment. In addition to the iPP320, the box should contain:
Note: The Magic Box is used to merge the ethernet and power supply cords into a single cable which connects to the underside of the iPP320 reader.
* If no ethernet cord is included in the box, any Cat5, Cat5e or Cat6 straight-through (NOT crossover) ethernet cable may be used. Likewise, a longer or shorter cable may be used in-place of the included cable where needed.
Insert the Ethernet cable and power supply cable into the magic box.
Insert and fasten the square connector from the magic box to the iPP320.
The iPP320 should be configured to obtain an IP address on the network which in-turn is entered into the talech register so that the application can communicate with the reader. Once the reader is verified to be working, talech recommends setting a static IP address to prevent potential loss of connectivity to the reader if the IP address ever changes (which happens regularly when the reader is configured with DHCP).
During bootup, the screen will display copyright information.
When successful, the reader will display "Press F For Menu". If the pin-pad continues to boot to the 'Welcome' screen, reboot the reader and try again.
To reboot, hold the # + Yellow button until the screen blanks.
Within the menu, use the arrow keys, number keys, green key (select) and yellow key (back) to navigate.
Set Communication Type by selecting:
Press the Green Button to save.
Setup the Ethernet connection
From the Comm. Type menu, press the Yellow Button to return to the Communication menu. Then:
Return to the previous menu by pressing the Yellow Button. Then:
Return to the previous menu by pressing the Yellow Button again. Then:
Finally, return to the previous menu by pressing the Green Button. Then:
Press the Yellow Button 4 times to go back to the home screen. At the top-level the reader will prompt you to Save and Reboot. Choose 1 - Yes.
Note: The reader may stay on this screen for a moment after pressing the button.
Record the IP address of the iPP320
At the copyright screen, during boot-up. Press the the Red button to scroll to the bottom.
Quickly write down the IP address of your device.
Note: The copyright screen is very brief. If the screen advances before you can write down the address, simply reboot the reader (# + Yellow Button) and try again.
Configure the app
Once the reader has rebooted and displays Welcome, log into your talech register as an Admin user. Then configure the card reader.
Navigate to the Dashboard > Back Office > Settings > Card Reader
Select Ingenico iPP320 & iPP350
Below the list of card readers, 2 new fields will appear:
IP Address of the reader
Port Address for the reader
Configure the readers IP address and port number to match the IP found during bootup and the port number (12000) selected previously.
Test Transaction and Enable SSL
Finally, start a sale. You can begin by tapping 'Custom Item' and entering a $0.01 as the price or any of the menu items in your store. Next, tap the blue Pay button and select 'Credit'. On the payment screen, select 'Next' to initialize the reader.
Note: The iPad app may stay on the 'Reader Detected' message for up-to 2 minutes on this first transaction. During this time, the app is updating the configuration of the reader based on predefined parameters received from your credit card processor.
When the reader is ready, both the iPad and reader will display a 'Swipe, Tap or Insert' message. Do not attempt to process a card yet.
Press the Red cancel button on the reader. The iPad should display an error stating 'Payment cancelled on reader'.
Reboot the reader (# + Yellow buttons). During bootup, the screen will display copyright information. At this screen, enter 2634, Green button on the pin-pad.
When successful, the reader will display "Press F For Menu". If the pin-pad continues to boot to the 'Welcome' screen, reboot the reader and try again. From the function menu, select:
- 3 - TDA
- 0 - Configuration
- 0 - Communication
- 2 - Ethernet Settings
- 11 - SSL
Change the setting to 'Yes', press the Green button to save, then press the yellow button until the reader displays 'Save and Reboot?'. Choose 1 - Yes.
You may now test the reader with a complete sale all the way through processing the card.
