Overview: This article will guide you through the setup of Ethernet/LAN Printers in the talech Register. If you have already installed your Printers and need to customize settings such as receipt messaging or assigning categories, click here.
Ethernet/LAN printers are connected to your talech register through the Network. These Devices are typically wired directly to the Network Router that broadcasts your WiFi signal. In most cases the Printers will work out-of-the-box. Simply connect power, ethernet and any other accessories (e.g.: cash drawer), then auto-detect the Printer in your talech register app.
Note: For reliable performance, talech recommends setting a static IP address on ALL Network Printers. This ensures the Printer does not become unavailable due to the natural expiration of IP addresses which happens by default. Reference the 'See also' section below for instructions.
Jump to:
From the 'Settings' Menu:
- Tap on 'Printers'
- Tap 'Auto Detect'
Note: Auto-detect can take up to several minutes depending on the number of printers and configuration of your Network.
You can also tap the [ + ] button to add a Printer manually using the IP address of the Printer (see troubleshooting below for instructions to obtain the IP of your Printer).
Tap on a Printer then tap 'Test Print' to verify the Printer is functioning correctly.
Once detected in talech, all iPads will "remember" the Printers that have been added.
Because different iPads may use a different receipt Printer, tap on 'Customer Receipt Printer' at the top of the list of Printers to choose which Printer will be used to Print receipts from each iPad that will need to communicate with a receipt printer.
Note: Ethernet Printers are capable of being used by multiple iPads whereas Bluetooth printers are not.
- Ensure the Printer is loaded with the correct paper
- For impact Printer ensure the ink ribbon is loaded correctly
- Connect the ethernet and power cords and power on the Printer
- After 10-30 seconds the Printer should print it's IP address
- Attempt to auto detect the Printer in back office settings of the talech register
- If that doesn't work or the Printer shows unavailable tap the Printer from 'Printers Management' and update the IP Address field to match the printout.

Note: The bottom of the printout. If DHCP is disabled and a 'static' configuration is used, the static IP must be in the same subnet as your iPad(s).
If it is not, the iPad may not be able to communicate with the Printer. Printers purchased from a talech partner should be shipped with DHCP enabled.
In the event DHCP is disabled or the printer was not purchased from talech or a talech partner it is possible to change the static address or to reset the printer to DHCP.

Troubleshooting (Star Micronics)
- Ensure the Printer is loaded with the correct paper
- For impact Printers, ensure the ink ribbon is loaded correctly
- Connect the ethernet and power cords and power on the Printer
- Get current network settings for the Printer
- Attempt to auto detect the Printer in back office settings of the talech register
- If that doesn't work or the Printer shows unavailable tap the Printer from 'Printers Management' and update the IP Address field to match the printout.
To Print the current Network Settings for the Printer:
- Turn the Printer off
- Hold the 'FEED' button on the front of the Printer
- Switch on the power
- Continue to hold the feed button for 2 seconds (SP700) or 4 seconds (TSP100)
If your Printer only prints a small slip that says 'No Host Connection' or 'Did Not Obtain', check your Network connection and router as this indicates the Printer is not able to receive it's configuration from the Network router.
