Introduction: This article will guide you through Tip Adjustment, with your Poynt based Talech register system. Service and Quickserve accounts, such as cafe’s, restaurants, bars, etc, have the ability to manually adjust their tips from within the talech Register app.
talech supports tipping with the following payment methods:
- Cash
- Credit
- Check, Gift Card
Tip adjustment can be done in two places within the Register app, from within the closed orders, or from under the Settlement option.

Important to Know:
To enable tips on the Poynt device , pull down the options menu from the top of the screen. Select settings, Then business settings, and then toggle on enable tips.
Adding tips and Settling credit card transactions can only be completed if the talech account is set up as a restaurant. Retail accounts will not have these options.
Retail accounts can load previous days transactions from the Orders > Closed view up to a few thousand. Restaurant accounts can only see the current business days orders.
Tip Adjustment - Cash
For cash tips, the tips collected by each server can be declared upon clock-out via the time clock feature in talech.com. Upon clocking out the app will request the amount of cash tips you have collected during the shift. This occurs when clocking out for lunch and at the end of your shift.
Tip adjustment - Check, Gift and Other
When an overpayment is taken (the amount tendered is more than the order total) the app may prompt you to decide what should be done with the excess amount: 'Apply as tip', or 'Issue cash back'.
Adding a Tip
There are 3 locations where a tip can be added. They are:
- At the time of sale
- Post sale through the closed order screen
- Post sale through the settlement screen.
Time of Sale:
If the Customer Signature setting is set to Sign on Device, then tip will be applied at the time of sale. During the transaction, the customer facing display will prompt to enter a tip amount. The customer can use one the preset tip amounts, enter a custom tip, or skip the tip altogether.
Through the Closed Order Screen:
If the Customer Signature setting is set to either Sign on Paper option, there will be an additional Add Tip button if you view the order from the Closed Order section.
After Selecting Add Tip, tap the Tip amount to prompt the keyboard. Once you are done entering in the tip value, press Done on the Keyboard to dismiss the keyboard. Press Submit Tips to save your changes.
Through the Settlement Screen:
Regardless of the Customer Signature setting, you can adjust the tip values through the Settlement screen. To get to the Settlement screen from the Register, select Dashboard > Back Office > Settlement. There will be an Adjust Tips button near the top which will allow to enter in the tip amounts for the various transactions listed. When you are finished making adjustments, press the Done button in the top right.
Settling Credit Card Transactions:
- Credit Card transactions must be settled through Poynt's Settlements application.
- From the Poynt Home screen, find the app labeled Settlements.
- Here there will be 4 options to select from. Press the option labeled Settle.
Here you will see your open batch summary. To settle your transactions, press the green Settle Open Batch button.
Note: Once you settle the transactions, you will be unable to adjust tips any further. Make sure all tips have been adjusted prior to settling.
